Norwegian shipyard Aas Mekaniske Verksted has awarded Hydroniq Coolers a contract to deliver its hull-integrated Rack seawater cooling system to a wellboat the yard is building for Nova Sea Service AS. 

The wellboat is of the yard’s own design, type AAS 3002 STDE-Hybrid, which is known for its low fuel consumption and associated low emissions to air. An ESS battery pack is used for peak shaving purposes during operation to reduce both the number of generators in operation and fuel consumption. The boat will also be equipped with a full exhaust gas cleaning system in line with IMO NOx Tier III requirements.

Under the contract, Aalesund-based Hydroniq Coolers will supply its Rack seawater cooling solution to the wellboat, which is newbuild number 206 from Aas Mekaniske Verksted.

“This newbuild wellboat has an impressive environmental profile, with plenty of technologies designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions to air. Our Rack seawater cooler falls into the same category as it reduces power consumption as well as fuel and maintenance costs versus comparable solutions,” says Håvard Tveitane, sales manager at Hydroniq Coolers.

Hydroniq Coolers’ Rack seawater cooler is integrated in the hull below the main engine room of the vessel. Here it safely reduces temperatures in the ship’s engines and other auxiliary systems through use of seawater – but without taking up valuable engine room space.

The company will manufacture and assemble the equipment at its headquarter in Aalesund, Norway and deliver it to Aas Mekaniske Verksted’s yard at Vestnes in Norway. Hydroniq Coolers has not disclosed the value of the contract.

The wellboat is newbuild number 206 from Aas Mekaniske Verksted. The ship will be built with diesel-electric propulsion and an ESS Battery plant for hybrid operation, as well as large onshore power capacity. The newbuild vessel will be 76.96 metres, 17.80 meters wide and depth moulded is 5.90 metres. The storage capacity is 3,000 cubic metres, equivalent to 450 tonnes of live fish.

The vessel will be delivered to Nova Sea Service in September 2021.

Aas Mekaniske Verksted has previously awarded Hydroniq Coolers contracts to deliver the seawater cooling system to both newbuild numbers 204 and 205.

Verksted AS).
